There is a great deal of cheap, low velocity, sub-par steel ammo available to the waterfowl hunter.
As the ammo manufacturers beat each other up and spar with foreign companies to sell these shells,
one may think that it is a shooter's bananza. However, remember any competitive business is not
going to put their best technologies and materials into "give away" shells.
Even if this ammo was the same velocity as a reload, which it is surely not, there are several
other variables the hand loader has to work with that will create a unique shell that will
perform best in his or her own gun.
Remember from the Volume VII handbook, "The Steel shot size, the payload amount, the velocity
window, the length of split of the wad, multiplexing of shot size, all will influence the
patterning and integrity of your reload"
The reloader has the control of all these factors to assist him or her in making the very
best shell for their requirements. For almost 12 years, R.S.I. has been helping waterfowl
hunters save money and regain confidence in their shells to the level they once had with lead
shells, and accomplishment impossible with factory shells.
Hunting without reloaded shells is like camouflaging your hunting rig (set up for bulrushes) using
newspaper. It just doesn't make sense! All your efforts and patience are not worth risking with less
than the very best, at a price equal to or less than any factory shell. Remember: insist on the level
of performance you require.
